As a Tampa native raised by a single mother, Janet Cruz knows firsthand the challenges our families face. A mother herself at 16, Janet attended Hillsborough Community College and started a small business to support her young family. It was a leap of faith that changed her life, turned her into a business owner, and took her out of poverty.
In 2010, Janet was inspired to fight for our community in the Florida House of Representatives. She quickly developed a reputation as a fierce advocate for hard-working families in Hillsborough County, focusing on the problems people face every day and standing strong against government waste and lobbyists’ pet projects.
In 2018, Janet launched her bid for State Senate, declaring: “I love our community and I am fed up with lawmakers who put the interests of the NRA, the for-profit school industry, and insurance companies before the people they represent. Florida deserves better.”
In the Florida State Senate, Janet will continue to be a voice for the working class, a proponent of quality public education, and a protector of Florida’s children.
Janet and her husband, Steve, live in Tampa. She has four children: Ana, Raymond, Stephen, and Lauren.
